That’s one of my favorite lines from one of my favorite movies, The Princess Bride. But marriage really is what brings us together today. Here’s why.
There’s so much information and rhetoric out there in the world about the power of your mind. About how if you can change your mind, you can change your life. About how we are shaped by our thoughts and we become what we think. About the importance of having a growth mindset, and believing in yourself and your capabilities and all that is possible.
And true that, I say!
There is also so much information and rhetoric out there about the power of your heart. About how your heart already knows what your mind may not be able to explain. About how you must follow and listen to your heart and what it wants, because if you don’t you will likely spend the rest of your life wishing you had. About how your heart really makes all the decisions in your life, and your head just justifies those decisions after the fact.
And true that too, I say!
The problem for most of us, I think, is that when we go about operating our lives, making decisions and choices, and living out our life, in the moment we usually pick just one of those two profound truisms as our guiding light. We forget that we believe in both, and more importantly we forget that we not only can choose both, but that we must choose both!
You must choose both because in order to truly live your life to the fullest – to become your best self, to realize all of your dreams, and to achieve your predestined greatness (as you deep down know you were created for), you must marry your head and your heart until death do them part.
Look, we all need reasons, rationalizations, justifications, logic, and real life practicalities to incentivize us to do anything. If we don’t have a reason to do something, we will not do it. But, without the energy and fuel of our heart, our emotions, and our soul behind it, alongside it, and holding hands with it every step of the way, our reasons will only get us so far.
And the opposite is true too. Living your life solely based on what your heart tells you feels good to the complete neglect or disregard of your heart’s partner, your head, will not get you anywhere either. At least not anywhere you want to go. You need the power of your mind to navigate and plan and understand where you and your heart are going, where you want to go, and how to get there.
So marry your head and your heart until death do them part. Because when you do, real magic happens! One without the other will not work. You need both to be inspired, to get motivated, to acquire and learn the knowledge and skills you need, and to act, implement, create, and manifest on that knowledge to become your best you and to realize all of your dreams!
You have both. You need both. So, use both. Because together they are an unstoppable power couple!
