OK, so I’m all about thinking BIG. Go big or go home, right?! In fact, forget big. Go HUGE! If you’re going to do something, then DO IT! Be bold, get in the game, get up and dance, live life to the fullest, and all that great stuff – yes, yes, yes, yes, yes!
But, here’s the thing. When it comes to the actual BIG stuff in life, the stuff that really does matter – realizing your dreams, becoming your best self, living your life with meaning, passion, purpose, happiness, love, and fulfillment – then sometimes, focusing on getting to that HUGE end result mission and vision you have actually gets in the way.
I realized this week (with the help of a well-needed, good, solid, but very loving kick in the ass from my husband – thank you, honey) that I’ve been focusing too much of my attention lately on my HUGE desired end result goals.
All that hugeness was swallowing me up! Plus, that left zero room (because of all the space all that hugeness takes up) for me to focus on all the smaller goals and steps along the way. The steps and goals that I have already taken and accomplished, and the steps and goals that I need to continue to take and accomplish in order to get to that grander, bolder, better, and BIGGER vision and version of myself and my dreams.
[Side note: Sometimes you just need a good, solid, loving kick in the ass!]
Thanks to that kick, I then realized – it’s no wonder I was too often feeling overwhelmed, discouraged, and basically “not good enough.” BUT, when you turn your focus towards the smaller steps and goals, and when you acknowledge the progress you have made by taking all those tiny steps along the way, you feel satisfied, confident, motivated and inspired; and then you do some more. And so on and so on….
People say that massive success is built on massive failures. That you have to fail big to ultimately win big. And I suppose there is truth in that. But, in my conversation with my husband, he said something that rang even truer for me; and that is this perspective: BIG success is actually built on thousands and thousands of small successes. I think so too; and it totally inspired me! I hope it does the same for you….
I still believe in dreaming and thinking huge, and in being bold! I still believe in having vision and huge dreams and in believing in them. I’m just saying focus on the smaller steps to help you get there.
Either way, size does matter! 😉
